One night in Bangkok

Well, we arrived in Bangkok without a hitch. Already it's a great trip. We left Kathmandu on time (truly a miracle) and made it here in just 3 hours. It's warm and balmy and we are splurging these first few nights by staying at the tallest hotel in Thailand: Baiyoke Sky Hotel. Our room is on the 62 floor! We have such a gorgeous view of this bustling city. The pool is on the 20th floor and we have breakfast tomorrow on the 78th floor.  We'll be pretty budget the rest of our trip so it's a real treat. The Bangkok airport is huge and was a fun brush with civilization again. The freeways and marked lanes were also great on the way to our hotel. People have already been fascinated by Addie and the ladies next to us on the plane kept taking her picture. On the plane!  One of the things I didn't realize I missed so much is Christmas decorations. So it's been nice to have lights and trees up.   We got here late and the kids were hungry so we walked out of our door to a McDonalds. We haven't seen one of those for awhile. I couldn't eat but everyone else did. As you can see, ice cream was a hit. We passed on the corn and pineapple pies, however. And the pork burgers. I love the tiny portion sizes. Why do we have to make everything gigantic in the U.S.? Do you like Ronald's greeting? Cool. I think he'd do the same if he ever makes it to Kathmandu.   We strolled through a night market. I found some cute things and will have to go back.  We spent some time on the observation deck, where they have some fun hands-on activities.    We'll get to see some of the 'real' Bangkok too, but for now this part is great. Really great.
