Welcome to Nepal

We've begun not only a new chapter but an entirely new book.
The setting is new to us, published in a language not our own. The photos are blank. But I already know the ending -- you probably do too. Summary: family of six spends two years in Kathmandu, Nepal. At first it is a bit rough as they get acclimatized and settled. One day at a time they embrace and thrive, grow strong individually and as a family unit. By the end they are all richer and deeper people. But like all things worthwhile, it takes work. And serious effort.
We are presently in the beginning. The very beginning. We've been here nearly 7 days, but it feels like a month. Or a year. Or an hour. I don't know -- I don't have a watch and the few clocks in the house are all random times. I can't even tell when I'm supposed to sleep and when I'm supposed to be awake.
This isn't the fun part, really. Disassembling a life on one end of the globe and trying to reassemble it on another is hard work. Sorting, distributing, giving away, packing, throwing away, carrying, finding, unpacking, not finding, buying, settling, hoping, reassembling. It's an exhaustive task list. Not to mention kids out-of-sorts, jet-lag, and emotional goodbyes, that kind of stuff. Oh, and eating. All day, every day. Endless need for food.
But here we are. In a few short days we have begun to call this gorgeous but oddly quirky house our home. We're making things ours. We have received and unpacked our air freight. We are braving the maddening walk to the kids' bus stop, which is enough to send me over the edge in my current mindset. Already I'm a little less affected by the morning "rooster storm" of cock-a-doodle-doos. The congestion, pollution, cramped quarters. Will I ever get used to this?
The answer is yes.
And so, our book begins. If you'd like a few details of our journey, check back from time to time.
